These days, the fruit and vegetables available on our supermarket shelves barely change from season to season. It used to be that avocados were a summer fruit and mushrooms a winter vegetable. Now you can buy either whenever you want them, so we eat food that has been picked before it is ripe, stored for many months before it is sold, and that travels for long distances to get where it is going.
Quite simply though, the best time to buy produce is when it is in season. It is more flavoursome, more nutritional and better for the environment.
Inspired by the flavours of seasonal food and reinvigorated by the concept that as the season changes so does the bounty, Pfeiffer Wines hosts four seasonal farmers markets each year, celebrating what is available and how good things taste.....in season!
The markets, held in the winery's idyllic grounds will also celecrate the passionate local growers and farmers of the region, who breed or grow for flavour and variety, not necessarily for uniformity of size or varietals with good travel desterity and a long shelf life.
Our markets also provide consumers with the opportunity to meet and talk to the farmers who grow their food.
From 9am - 3pm once per season. See Pfeiffers Wines website for specific dates.
