An easy 30 minute drive from Rutherglen, Wangaratta really comes alive during November's annual Festival of Jazz and Blues - an internationally renowned event, attracting around 20,000 visitors, and more than 200 jazz and blues artists from the USA, the UK, Europe and Australia.

At any time of the year you can catch comedy, theatre and opera at the performing arts centre - and see the ever-changing art exhibitions at the Wangaratta Exhibitions Gallery.

Wangaratta also has a number of dining options, whether you're looking for a fine dining experience, a laid-back meal or fresh local farm gate produce.

The Murray to Mountains Rail Trail re-commences near Wangaratta and is a 94-kilometre trail that follows the old railway track through spectacular and diverse scenery from Wangaratta to Bright - with a loop to Beechworth if desired. You can ride sections of the Trail depending on your level of fitness or do some of the scenic side rides. Bikes are available for hire in Wangaratta and there are services to pick up tired cyclists along the route by arrangement.

Wangaratta is also the beginning of the Great Alpine Road - one of Victoria's iconic drives. Travel the 308-kilometre journey taking in lofty mountains, plunging valleys, lush forests, and rolling vineyards along the way to Bairnsdale, in the heart of Gippsland.
