Bastille Day is Thursday 14 July, so of course the occasion must be celebrated here at Jones Winery & Vineyard.

Jones Café will be serving the very special dessert, Paris-Brest, all day on Bastille Day. This delectable dessert is an almond and choux pastry éclair filled with praline infused cream.

The Pairs-Brest dessert was invented by a pastry chef in France, as a celebratory cake for the Paris to Brest and back to Paris bicycle race (1200 kilometres). Beginning in 1891, it is the oldest bicycling race event still regularly run and is the precursor for the Tour De France race event.

The Paris-Brest cake was made to celebrate the first race in 1891 and was to represent the bicycle wheel. The pastry was choux pastry and it was filled with lovely creamy custard and toffee almond crumbs.

Worth smashing the gate down for.
