Anderson Winery win National Champion Sparkling Wine Trophy
Anderson Winery has taken out the ‘National Champion Sparkling Wine’ at the 2009 Australian Small Winemakers Show with their 2002 Cellar block Sparkling Shiraz.
This is the trophy for the best sparkling wine in show – red or white.
Their 2002 Cellar blcok Sparkling Shiraz was made by the Andersons in the traditional Champagne method, using grapes grown in their un-irrigated vineyard next to their Cellar door & Winery. It has spent 5 years in the bottle on yeast lees before disgorgement (removal of yeast) which gives the wine an extra level of complexity and creaminess.
Howard Anderson started making traditionally made Sparkling reds (and whites) in 1971 and honed his skills whilst working as a Winemaker at Seppelt Great Western for 14 years. Sparklings have been his passion ever since, particularly the reds which have been the showcase of Anderson Winery since opening in 1993.
