Proactive young Rutherglen winemakers sell out!Young winemaker, Rowly Milhinch of Scion Vineyard in Rutherglen, has brought together a group of wino mates in a bid to liven up Melbourne’s wine scene. The newly formed Young Bunch will host their first public event at The Melbourne Food & Wine Festival 2010. Nick Brown of All Saints Estate completes the Rutherglen contingent, the pair taking some creative new drops under the Rutherglen banner to a fresh crowd of thirsty consumers. Five premier wine regions are represented in a commitment to espousing the virtues of good wine in a casual environment; connecting with likeminded friends and followers of wine, by way of their own individual styles. The event has attracted excellent media attention, resulting in a sell out situation three weeks ahead of the ‘200 person wine party’!
The event is unique because the seven Young Bunch members have come together through one degree of separation. They are young (twenty-to-thirty something) winemakers and business people who are directly involved with their product. They are keen to see wine viewed in a fresh light and aim to be seen as approachable, down to earth and excitable. Essentially, just themselves! The Young Bunch is Ben Portet (Dominique Portet, Yarra Valley), Nick Brown (All Saints Estate, Rutherglen), Christian Dal Zotto (Dal Zotto, King Valley), Clare Burder (Eminence, King Valley), Matt Fowles (Plunkett Fowles, Strathbogie Ranges), Simon Steele (Shadowfax, Werribee) and Rowly Milhinch (Scion Vineyard, Rutherglen). Young Bunch will take wine enjoyment to a new audience and have a ball along the way. What a step in the ripe direction! Notable event partners include the dynamic young creative catering of Bright Young Things, cocktail bar of character Red Hummingbird and DJ Emillionzzz.
