Campbells Rutherglen Muscat... an International Star
To quote Colin and Malcolm Campbell, 4th generation winemaker and viticulturist, “the award is the pinnacle of international endorsements for the rich and extraordinarily complex dessert wine which has been made continuously by our family since 1870. We feel honored and privileged to receive it.” Remarkably this is just one of a number of international accolades awarded to Campbells Rutherglen Muscat over the years. In 2002 it won two trophies and a gold medal at the International Wine Challenge and in 2007 it was awarded a gold medal in the Decanter Wine Awards. Its success is testimony to Campbells ongoing commitment to producing wines of consistently exceptional quality. Back in the 1960’s when Colin took over the winemaking from his father he inherited a cellar full of barrels of maturing Muscats. He decided to establish a solera system for these as a means of guaranteeing the consistency and quality of such wines. It was a long and arduous task however, the time and effort invested has paid off. Rutherglen muscats are grouped into four different classifications beginning with the foundation style, “Rutherglen” moving through in ascending order according to their increasing levels of richness and complexity to “Classic”, “Grand” and the pinnacle, “Rare”. For Campbells’ foundation muscat to have received a trophy is an indication of the benchmark quality of Campbells’ rich yet elegant house style. << return to previous page |
