Welcome to Rutherglen Victoria - Victorias Premier Wine Region

The Vines are Sleeping….

With vintage now well and truly behind us, it is time to assess the wines we have made and make some of the vital blending decisions and other winemaking practices to fine tune our wines.
At Morris Wines this is quite an exhaustive process, with many 'parcels' of wine made during vintage across many styles of wine. Each individual parcel and barrel is tasted, analysed and assessed for suitability across our range and this will take us into spring, where we begin to focus on bottling and other issues.

The hot and dry conditions of 2009 have delivered us some variable results, but we are largely pleased with the wines that will make up our premium wines. The traditional varieties we use such as Shiraz and Durif have managed to deliver us strong flavours for which the region is renowned.

The vineyards here at Morris, like most in the region, are in dormancy after some cold weather in early June and our teams of pruners are making steady progress. Our dry land (non irrigated) vineyards are still desperately dry after yet another below average start to Autumn and Winter rainfall. There is still plenty of time to resurrect this, and it would be nice to bring out the gumboots for a change in the coming months.

Winter is also when we celebrate the Winery Walkabout. This year's Winery Walkabout offered activities to suit all and it is pleasing to see the event grow.
