Picnics 

With a huge variety of delicious local produce, and of course our great Rutherglen wines, there are some fantastic options to indulge in both at some picturesque locations in the region. Many businesses in Rutherglen offer great picnic hampers, and we’ve compiled a list of some of the best places to take your hamper to enjoy. Make sure you book yours in advance so you don’t miss out. 

 

Picnic Areas

Apex Park, on the banks of Lake King, has a fantastic children’s playground and a public BBQ area with picnic tables and public toilets.

Rutherglen's Iconic Wine Bottle has the perfect outlook over vineyards and surrounding mountains.  There is a bench seat or take a picnic rug and soak up the scenery.

Lions Park is in the heart of the town, only a short walking distance to the main street.  Has a lovely grassed area with public BBQ facilities, picnic tables and toilets available.

Rutherglen Wine Experience and Visitor Information Centre situated on the corner of Murray Valley Hwy and Chiltern Road, has picnic tables and public toilets, and a lovely grass area for kids to run around on.

Corowa Rowers Park is on your left hand as you go over the John Foord Bridge into Corowa from Wahgunyah.  It has BBQ facilities, picnic tables and public toilets, and during the warmer months is an ideal spot for swimming.

Golfers Retreat Motel in Corowa offer a picnic table for the public to use on the corner of Hay and Adams Street South Corowa.  You can make use of this table while riding around and exploring the region.

Grantham’s Bend is situated 5km north-east of Wahgunyah, just before you head over on the Federation Bridge to Corowa.  It is an ideal swimming and fishing area; no toilets.

Lake Moodemere  is situated off the Murray Valley Highway 8kms from Rutherglen heading towards Yarrawonga.  It has beautiful grassed areas with public toilets, and during the warmer months is an ideal spot for swimming and water skiing.

Police Paddocks, situated 10km north east of Rutherglen, has access via Police Paddock Road off Up River Road. An ideal swimming and fishing area; no toilets, however there are picnic tables.

Shaw’s Flat is located 7 km north east of Rutherglen, with access via Shaws Flat Road off Up River Road.  Ideal for swimming and fishing; no toilets.

Stanton’s Bend is 5km west of Rutherglen, with access via Lake Moodemere Road off the Murray Valley Highway.  An ideal swimming and fishing area; no toilets.

Willows Reserve, situated at the end of Short Street in Wahgunyah has picnic tables, BBQ and public toilets.  There is also a lovely walking track along the Murray River.

Wineries and Oliveries

Anderson Winery offer picnic tables for their customers to use - they get the shade of trees in the summer and offer the warmth of the winter sun.

Buller Wines offers a beautiful garden setting with outdoor furniture. While you are there take a leisurely walk around the bird park and have a chat to their talking cocky ‘Charlie’.

Campbells Wines has picnic tables which people can use with either a Campbells Hamper Box or a BYO picnic, all under the shade of their beautiful old trees.

Cofield Wines is ideal for the family picnic, with free BBQ Facilities, plenty of shade, tables & chairs, as well as their rotunda area.  They have a giant chess set, plus a basketball ring, football & totem tennis - great for all the family to join in.

Gooramadda Olives offer picnics in their olive grove for people looking for something a little bit different - and why not bring your kite and enjoy the surrounding area. 

Morris Wines offer the use of their BBQ, tables and chairs for those who wish to use it.  They also offer under cover car parking.

Pfeiffer Wines has two beautiful spots where you can enjoy BYO or pre-ordered (through Pfeiffer's cellar door) picnics - on Sunday Creek Bridge and under their beautiful old trees.  

Scion Vineyard has a beautiful shaded lawn area, sheltered undercover space for small groups, and a BBQ.

Stanton and Killeen Wines have a lovely grassed area and tables for you to enjoy your BYO picnics.

Valhalla Wines provides a lovely spot for BYO picnics with plenty of tables and space for the kids to run around in.

 

Hampers and Picnics

Buller Wines - pre-order your picnic hamper and sit amongst Val Buller’s beautiful garden enjoying the atmosphere. (24hrs required)

Campbells Wines provide hamper boxes which are filled with delicious regional produce and can be eaten on the picnic tables which are situated on the lawn area.

Indigo Cheese at All Saints Estate provide cheese and produce hampers to leisurely enjoy in the warmth of their modern building, outside on the terrace, or beside the gorgeous duck pond.

Jones Winery and Vineyard Cafe have picnic hampers of delights such as charcuterie, confit duck salad and homemade rye bread that can be pre-ordered (24 hrs notice required) for two people which can be picked up and enjoyed in your favourite picnic spot

Lake Moodemere Vineyards offer regional platters and beautiful surroundings to enjoy overlooking Lake Moodemere.  No BYO picnics.

Must Love Dogs B&B picnic hampers include some of the finest local Rutherglen produce including local cheeses, home cooked meats, selection of local pickles, salad and fruit, freshly baked crusty bread rolls and crackers (24hrs required).

The Pickled Sisters Cafe at Cofield WInes have a range of take home catering options, including gourmet regional hampers, for your next BBQ, picnic or get together (24hrs required)
